Air Cadet League of Canada
Ontario Provincial Committee
2014 Lottery

A reminder to all cadets, parents, and guardians that the 2014 lottery tickets will be available for pickup this coming Wednesday, October 2, 2013 from Ms. Michele Smith (the Squadron Sponsoring Committee Chairperson).  As part of your fundraising responsibility each cadet must sell at least one book of tickets.  Tickets are $2.50 each and come in books of 20 tickets.

Attached here is the information letter and agreement that must be signed and returned prior to getting your book of lottery tickets.  Click here for the letter!

What Happens to the Lottery Money Every Year?

The Air Cadet Lottery is administered by the Ontario Provincial Committee of the Air Cadet League of Canada (the OPC), under a license issued by the Ontario Lottery & Gaming Commission. Each Squadron is required to sell a minimum number of books of tickets (quota), based on the previous year’s squadron average effective strength of cadets. Squadrons receive a portion of the Lottery proceeds based on the number of books they sell.

The portion of proceeds retained by the OPC is used to:

1. Pay all direct Lottery costs (e.g., ticket printing, letter of credit, license fees, prizes, publishing names of winners in a newspaper, etc.).

2. Support the OPC gliding program, by paying for fleet procurement, and maintenance costs associated with the tow planes and gliders it owns and provide to the Air Cadet Program.

What the heck is dragon boat racing?

A dragon boat team consists of 20 paddlers sitting two abreast, plus a Cox who steers the dragon boat from the rear and a drummer who sits at the front. The team of paddlers works in unison to propel the boat forwards from a standing start, the aim being to reach the finish line in the fastest time. Races can be a wide range of distances, although the HOHW Dragon Boat race will be roughly 200 metres.

For more information visit http://www.hohw.ca/dragon/ or email gandh.frampton@live.com.
